Writing

I did it!

I wrote a book.

I’ll admit: It feels weird to write that sentence. Not because it’s not true… but because it is a big transition from “I’m writing a book,” to ” I wrote a book.” To go from the present to the past tense might seem like a small change. If you get down to it, both sentences still have four words. The change is really from 14 letters to 11.

But the feeling that emerges from the decrease of only three letters is immeasurable.

As one who grew up a voracious reader, it is still surprising to admit that I sat down and typed out a whole book. A world that once existed only in my brain has come to life on the pages of a book. I’ll continue to jot down my feelings and thoughts about writing a book – from the elation of finishing to those dreary days when writing one coherent sentence felt like a Sisyphean task.

I’ll include tips that work for me and may help you. But anyone who has read or listened to authors talk about writing knows this: What works for one person may not work for another.
