- Statesboro native embarks on book tour for debut novel, In the Shadow of the Sanctum (Grice Connect, September 17, 2026)
- Desai Martin will be at Galactic from 11am until 1pm. Anyone can stop by during that time to pick up a copy of the book and have it signed.
- On Monday, September 21, he will speak to the Creative Writing Club at Georgia Southern University. Then he heads to Rome, Georgia, where he will speak to creative writing classes at Berry College, his alma mater, before a book talk and Q&A on the evening of September 23 at the college. The next day, he heads back to Statesboro, where he will meet with some students involved with Statesboro High School’s literary magazine. The tour wraps up on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Barnwell Community Public Library in Barnwell County.

- Fantasy novelist and Statesboro High graduate Dan Desai Martin announced his first book tour for his novel, “In the Shadow of the Sanctum.” The multi-state tour will take Desai Martin across Georgia and into South Carolina with several stops over eight days. His first stop will be a book signing at Statesboro’s Galactic Comics & Games, 21 E. Vine St., on Saturday, Sept. 19, starting at 11 a.m.
- “I’m so excited to that my first stop on my first-ever book tour will be at Galactic Comics in my hometown of Statesboro,” said Desai Martin. “I grew up there, and have always felt a tremendous amount of love and support from family, friends and neighbors.”

- Silver Spring resident and novelist Dan Desai Martin officially joined the Board of the Maryland Writers Association (MWA) on July 1, 2026. MWA is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the art, businesses, and craft of writing in all its forms. It strives to bring together aspiring, emerging, and established writers of all genres and disciplines. It also serves as an information and networking resource to help members make contacts that lead to publication. Most importantly, it encourages writers to reach their full potential and promote writing within Maryland communities.

Packed with religious oppression, revolution and self-discovery, the fantasy novel has been compared to Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Sabaa Tahir’s “Ember in the Ashes” series, and Phillip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” series.

- “There’s a long tradition of cautionary tales about the abuse of power throughout fantasy and sci-fi books,” Desai Martin said. “Given my background in religious studies, I focused on how religious authorities can abuse the trust people place in them to be a central tenet of the book. While there is some darkness, characters show hope and inspiration in the face of adversity. In the quest for truth, we have to be true to ourselves. And I hope that’s what people take away – in addition to a fun, fast-paced adventure.”
